Program Upgrades

Over the years, Safety Pays has expanded to include incentive mechanisms to address not just safety issues, but any related problems such as claims fraud, disciplinary options, etc.

In addition, we recognize that one of the fundamental requirements of an effective incentive game is to stay fresh and dynamic so that the workforce remains interested and focused on the incentive goals the program was implemented for in the first place. So, we are constantly coming up with new ways to not only play Safety Pays, but to reward participating workers on both an individual as well as group level.

Because we want all of our client companies to be able to take advantage of these new tools as they are developed, PROGRAM UPGRADES are sent out to all existing customers on a regular basis.

The Safety Pays program, which is now used by nearly 2,000 companies nationwide, will soon be expanded to utilize a powerful new tool which provides additional individual employee incentives.

Introducing the...Game Advisory

The new "Game Advisory" will announce to your workers new ways they can individually earn an additional game card worth extra jackpot dollars. These bonus dollars grow ever-larger with each passing year an employee is on-the-job without an injury. So, the longer the employee remains accident free, the larger the value of the bonus card which he/she will automatically receive at the start of every game. This FREE upgrade will include a Game Advisory mini-poster, employee injury/time log as well as complete implementation instructions. ComingWith Your Fall-1995 Customer Newsletter!

Accident Free Bonus Cards - Upgrade Instructions
Copyright Safety Pays, Inc.
1. Make enough copies of the "Employee Injury Roster (see reverse side) to include every employee currently participating in your Safety Pays program. Place this original in your Program Binder.
2. Fill-in each employee's name and hire date in the spaces provided on the copies of the "Employee Injury Roster".
3. Check employment records for date of last employee accident and/or injury. Injuries include anything which required medical attention (doctor's care).

Note #1: This especially applies to companies running the Safety Pays "lost-time" rules orientation.
Note #2: For companies which are utilizing the "property damage" rules orientation, the Last Injury Date would include any "at-fault" accident which resulted in damage to Company property.

4. Write-in the date of each employee's last injury/accident next to the corresponding hire date for that employee on the Roster.
5. Using whichever date is most recent (hire date vs. last injury/accident date), calculate the number of complete years between that date and the beginning of the game round in which this upgrade is being implemented.

Example #1: Hire Date-4/23/91; Last Injury-8/12/93; New Game - 11/15/95. The Bonus Amount would be $50 since it has been over 2 years since last accident.

Example #2: Hire Date-12/02/93; Last Injury Date-None;New Game - 11/15/95. The bonus amount would be only $25, since the employee has not worked therea full 2 years (with no accidents) at the time of the new game. If the next game starts after 12/0295, the employee would then be entitled to $50 bonus card (unless he'shad an accident in the meantime).

Example #3: Same as employee in #2 except on 9/30/94 was sent to the medical clinic to take care of a minor injury (no lost-time). Even though the injury is not lost-time, it still counts toward this new bonus feature. Nevertheless, since it has been over a year since the injury, the employee is entitled to a $25 bonus card.

6. Multiply the number of accident/injury free years (as calculated in #5 above) times $25. (If less than a year, the employee is not eligible for a bonus card.) Write-in the resulting bonus dollar amount in the corresponding space for each employee listed.
8. At the beginning of a game round, hand-out a red bonus card to each employee who has earned any level of bonus value. A copy of the "Employees Injury Roster"may be posted next to the Master Game Board. (NOTE: If you are concerned about confidentiality issues, make a copy of the roster leaving out the various hire & accident dates. Another option is to provide the employee's name and corresponding bonus amount on each bonus card before being handed out.)
7. Update this roster at the end of each game round. Lower bonus amount to zero for any employee involved in an accident during the previous game round. Increase the bonus amount for those employees who have passed their anniversary date of either hire or last accident (whichever is most recent). Add any employees hired since the start of the last game round; they would receive no bonus values until their first anniversary date, assuming there have been no intervening accidents.

Fill-in the "Bonus Card Maximum Value" on the"Game Advisory" and post next to the Master Game Board several days in advance of initial game round implementation
